Andrew
Stevenson was brought up in Achnacary in the central Highlands. He began playing
the bagpipes at the age of 8, and over the following years achieved considerable
success in various local and national junior piping competitions. At the age of
15 he was elevated to the position of Pipe Major of the Lochaber High school pipe
band. In this capacity, Andrew performed extensively throughout Scotland and on
various occasions, travelled abroad to destinations including Australia and New
Zealand. On
leaving school, Andrew attended Inverness College where he studied for an HNC
in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Following this and after a season working as
a gillie for Locheil Estates Andrew gained a place as a student at the RSAMD studying
Scottish Music. Here he teamed up with fellow student Angus MacPhail to form the
band Skipinnish and later the record company Skipinnish Records. After
graduating with a BA. Scottish Music in July 2001 and with a yearning to return
home, Andrew moved back to Achnacarry to become involved in the running of his
family's garage and vehicle recovery business, A.D.J. Stevenson Recovery. Due
to the very long, unsociable and unpredictable working hours, that are involved
in a 24 hour call out service, and seeking independence from the family business,
in Jan 2003 he took on the job of General Technician at Lochaber High school.
This gave Andrew more flexibility to increase his amount of musical performances,
and devote more time to developing Skipinnish Records. In
2002 Andrew was married to Gaelic singer Rachel Walker and has recently began
producing junior Stevensons! - In November of last year Rachel gave birth to a
little girl Flora Beth. Andrew continues to split his time between Skipinnish
Records, the Skipinnish band, his job in Lochaber High School and his family life. | | Andrew
